One month after the Trinity test (July 16, 1945), an object crashed on the Padilla Ranch near San Antonio. Jacques Vallée and Paola Harris document this case in TRINITY. Roswell

Kapustin Yar

In 1948, according to ufological folklore, a Soviet aircraft allegedly fired on an unidentified object approaching the secret base at Kapustin Yar. Mantell (Godman Field)

1948-01-07 — Godman Field, Kentucky, USA

Premier pilote américain décédé en poursuite d'un UAP. Objet circulaire brillant. Cas fondateur de Blue Book.

Le 7 janvier 1948, le capitaine Thomas Mantell de la Garde nationale est l'un des quatre pilotes F-51 envoyés intercepter un objet circulaire brillant signalé au-dessus de Godman Field. Mantell monte à plus de 6 000 m sans oxygène, perd le contact radio et décède. Son appareil est retrouvé en miettes. Explication officielle : hypoxie en poursuivant Vénus ou un ballon Skyhook. Aucune explication ne convainc totalement. Premier décès documenté lors d'une poursuite UAP par l'armée américaine. Le cas contraint l'USAF à prendre les observations au sérieux et accélère la création du Projet Blue Book.

Aztec

1948-03 — Aztec, New Mexico

Crash eight months after Roswell. Ramsey-Thayer investigation. Craft secretly recovered.

In March 1948, a craft of non-human origin reportedly crashed near Aztec, eight months after Roswell. The wreckage was allegedly secretly recovered by US military and transported to a base for examination. Witnesses swore oaths of secrecy. Scott and Suzanne Ramsey (since 1988) and Frank Thayer investigated and revealed names of scientists who worked on the craft. Some researchers consider it a hoax (Scully book 1950), others find it credible and comparable to Roswell. The craft was reportedly ~30 m in diameter, with up to 16 deceased occupants. Recovery operation led by USAF over about two weeks.

Gorman Dogfight (Fargo)

1948-10-01 — Fargo, Dakota du Nord, USA

Le 1er octobre 1948, le lieutenant George Gorman (Garde nationale aérienne) voit depuis son F-51 une petite lumière blanche qui manœuvre avec intelligence lors d'un vol nocturne au-dessus de Fargo. Il s'engage dans une poursuite de 27 minutes : l'objet exécute des virages serrés impossibles pour un engin connu, monte et plonge, évite ses tentatives de collision. Deux contrôleurs aériens au sol (Errol Jensen et Manuel Johnson) confirment l'observation avec des jumelles. Le cas est classé « non identifié » par Blue Book, puis rétrospectivement attribué à un ballon météo lumineux — explication rejetée par Gorman et les enquêteurs. McMinnville (Photos Trent)

Le 11 mai 1950, Evelyn et Paul Trent photographient depuis leur ferme un objet discoïde argenté qui survole la propriété. Deux clichés nets sont pris avec un Kodak ordinaire. In July 1952, unidentified objects were detected by radar over Washington DC for several nights. Fighters were sent on intercept. The press seized on the story. Truman requested briefings. This episode contributed to the creation of Project Blue Book and reinforced the policy of trivialization.

Kingman

1953-05 — Kingman, Arizona

~30 ft disc. Non-human bodies. Made public by Raymond Fowler 1973.

On May 21, 1953, a disc-shaped craft reportedly crashed near Kingman, Arizona. Military and scientists were reportedly sent to recover the wreckage. The craft was oval, ~30 ft (9 m) in diameter, brushed aluminum, embedded 20 inches in the sand without structural damage. One deceased occupant reportedly recovered: ~4 ft, brown complexion, silvery metallic suit. Arthur G. Stancil (engineer at Wright-Patterson, AEC, Nevada Test Site — Operation Upshot Knothole) reportedly participated under the pseudonym « Fritz Werner ». Affidavit signed June 1973. Ufologist Raymond Fowler made the case public; some researchers consider it credible or potentially more significant than Roswell.

French Wave 1954

In September-October 1954, France experienced an unprecedented wave of observations: hundreds of cases, often with multiple witnesses. Jacques Vallée used this data as the basis for his statistical analysis in « The Inexplicable Phenomena of Space ». SEMOC (Meteor and Cosmic Object Study Service) was created, precursor to GEPAN/GEIPAN.

Lakenheath

On August 13-14, 1956, RAF Lakenheath and Bentwaters bases detected objects by radar. A Venom was sent in pursuit; the object positioned itself behind the fighter. Radar-visual case classified « unidentified » by the Condon Report. Mentioned in the DIRDs as a reference case.

RB-47

In September 1957, a USAF RB-47 was followed for 700 miles by an object detected simultaneously by radar, ELINT systems and visually by the crew. The object changed course and altitude. The Condon Report classified it among the most troubling and unresolved cases.

Boianai / Père Gill (Papouasie-Nouvelle-Guinée)

38 témoins. Entités humanoïdes sur un engin répondant aux saluts humains. Rapport signé. Cas CE-III le plus attesté de l'ère Blue Book.

Les 26-27 juin 1959, le révérend William Gill et 37 autres personnes (personnel de la mission, habitants locaux) observent un grand objet lumineux en stationnaire à basse altitude au-dessus de la mission anglicane de Boianai. Quatre silhouettes humanoïdes sont visibles sur le « pont supérieur ». Gill et ses compagnons leur font signe de la main — les entités répondent par des gestes identiques. L'une d'elles brandit le bras lors d'une invitation similaire au 'come here'. L'objet s'approche et repart. Il revient la nuit suivante. Gill rédige un rapport de quatre pages signé par 25 témoins, transmis aux autorités australiennes. Betty and Barney Hill

First widely publicized abduction account. Memory recovery under hypnosis.

On the night of September 19, 1961, Betty and Barney Hill saw a luminous object following them on a road. They lost two hours of memory. Under hypnosis, they described an abduction and examination aboard a craft. First widely publicized abduction case. John Fuller made it into a book in 1966.

Big Sur (Atlas D)

During an Atlas D missile test, Lieutenant Bob Jacobs filmed the nose cone from Big Sur. A UAP appeared, sent 4 beams toward the nose cone, then disappeared. Estimated speed 8000-9000 mph. The film was confiscated. Jacobs testified decades later. Iconic case of the UAP-nuclear sites link.

On April 24, 1964, officer Lonnie Zamora was pursuing a speeding car when he saw a flame and an oval craft that had landed. Two small beings nearby. The craft took off with a whistling sound. On December 9, 1965, a fireball crossed the sky (observed in several US states and Canada). An acorn-shaped object crashed in a forest near Kecksburg. Firefighters and military quickly cordoned off the area and recovered the wreckage. Witnesses described an acorn-shaped object; rumors persist of Army recovery. The official explanation (Russian satellite Cosmos 96) was disputed. Government documents mysteriously disappeared. Leslie Kean obtained via FOIA proof that NASA had investigated. Malmstrom AFB

On March 16, 1967, a red-orange light was observed above Malmstrom base. Ten Minuteman missiles went « No-Go » (disabled) while an object flew over the site. Robert Salas, launch officer, testified. A second similar incident reportedly occurred at Oscar Flight. Major case of the UAP-nuclear link.

Shag Harbour

1967-10 — Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada

« Canadian Roswell ». Luminous object crashed into water. Official RCMP investigation.

On October 4, 1967, around 11:20 PM, several witnesses observed a luminous object with four blinking orange lights descending into Shag Harbour. Thinking a plane had crashed, locals alerted the RCMP. A team of fishermen and Coast Guard found only yellow foam on the surface. No debris, no survivors. The object was officially classified UFO by default after ruling out a missing aircraft. Multi-agency investigation: RCMP, Coast Guard, Canadian Navy and Air Force, Condon Committee (US). Underwater searches found nothing. Divers reportedly later saw unidentified underwater objects. The only UFO crash case supported by uncontroversial Canadian government documents. UFO museum and annual conference on site.

Coyame

1974-08 — Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico

« Mexican Roswell ». US radar detection. Missing Mexican military aircraft.

On the night of August 25, 1974, an unidentified object was detected by US radar over the Gulf of Mexico: over 2,500 mph at 75,000 ft altitude. The object decelerated, changed course and descended in steps into Mexican airspace near Coyame, then vanished from screens. About 52 minutes later, civilian radio reported a light aircraft crash (El Paso → Mexico). Mexican authorities began search on August 26. Around 10:30 AM: civilian aircraft wreckage found, then a second circular intact but damaged object. Mexican military imposed radio silence. A US team allegedly recovered debris and sent it to Atlanta (CDC?). The case remained unknown until 1991 (anonymous letter to investigator Elaine Douglass, « Deneb report »). Documented in Mexico's Roswell (Torres, Uriarte, 2007). Mexican military denies personnel disappearance.

Tehran

On September 20, 1977, a light emerged from Lake Onega and descended in a spiral. The object took on the appearance of a luminous jellyfish with golden tentacles, emitted a siren sound. Clarenville

1978-10 — Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

RCMP witnesses. Fin-oval luminous object. Commemorative coin 2020.

On October 26, 1978 around 1:45 AM, RCMP Constable James Blackwood responded to a call: luminous object in the sky near Random Island. With binoculars and a high-powered scope, Blackwood and other witnesses observed a fin-oval craft hovering above the water, silent. When Blackwood activated the police cruiser's flashing lights, the object instantly mimicked the light sequence. It remained visible for one to two hours before rising and vanishing. Blackwood, an aircraft enthusiast, described dull coarse-looking metal with no doors or windows, white lights underneath and flashing blue and red. « Technology way beyond what we had then and still way beyond what we have now. » The Royal Canadian Mint issued a commemorative coin in October 2020 (5,000 mintage, silver, glow-in-the-dark) designed by Adam Young, third in the « Canada's Unexplained Phenomena » series.

Valentich (Détroit de Bass)

Le 21 octobre 1978, Frederick Valentich, 20 ans, pilote un Cessna 182L vers King Island au-dessus du Détroit de Bass. À 19h06, il signale au service de vol de Melbourne la présence d'un objet métallique brillant avec une lumière verte qui le survole à plusieurs reprises. Il décrit 4 lumières allongées à grande vitesse, une surface chromée lisse. La communication dure 17 minutes. Ses derniers mots : « It is hovering and it's not an aircraft. » Un bruit métallique strident est enregistré, puis le silence. L'avion et le pilote ne sont jamais retrouvés malgré des recherches intensives. Le Bureau australien des accidents d'aviation (BASI) classe le cas : disparition inexpliquée. Cas exceptionnel par la qualité de l'enregistrement radio conservé, et l'absence totale de débris ou de corps.

Belgian Wave

Varginha

On January 20, 1996, three young women saw a creature near a vacant lot: ~1.2 m, large head, oily brown skin, red eyes. Other testimonies: UFO, captured creatures, military and police active, animal deaths at the zoo (tapir, ocelot). Military investigation 2010: the creature would be « Mudinho », an unstable and dirty man. Despite this explanation, Varginha remains an iconic case of Brazilian ufology.

Peru (Jonathan Weygandt)

USMC corporal. Egg-shaped crash, recovery by men in black. Disclosure Project.

In March 1997, Corporal Jonathan Weygandt (USMC) was on Operation Laser Strike (counter-drug) mission in Peru. His team was briefed on a crashed « possibly friendly aircraft » and tasked with securing the site. At dawn they discovered a massive egg or teardrop-shaped object embedded in a ridge at a steep angle, unlike any known craft. Smooth surface, gill-like vents, leaking corrosive purplish-green substance. Weygandt reported telepathic communication from beings inside. An occupant's arm allegedly hung from a cockpit door. Harbour Mille

On January 25, 2010, residents of Harbour Mille (south coast of Newfoundland) reported missile-like objects in the sky. Darlene Stewart photographed one: long round object with flames or smoke trailing behind. She and neighbors saw three similar objects fly over the ocean minutes apart, with no sound. Police confirmed a sighting but ruled out criminal activity. The Prime Minister's Office: « No indication of a rocket launch ». RCMP called it an « unexplained sighting ». Department of National Defence documents later ruled out ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and model rockets (object shape and flame characteristics). Neither NORAD nor Canada Command had supporting evidence. France denied involvement (M51 tests January 27, not 25). Nine pages of UFO documents blocked. MP Gerry Byrne called for transparency on whether residents' safety was jeopardized. No official explanation ever provided.

A DHS helicopter filmed a sphere entering the water at 74 mph without a splash, resurfacing, dividing in two. Documented transmedium case. Kevin Knuth calculated a power of ~1100 GW (100× daily US output) to explain the accelerations.
